Update on Flood Insurance in Indianapolis

Check the search function in this blog to check prior posts about flood insurance. There was an article today that work will begin probably in 2012 to complete Phase 3 of the flood control project for White River. The Indianapolis Star mentions that a levee of approximately 8000 linear feet will be built in the Butler Tarkington area. Once completed, this should mean that flood insurance will no longer be required for residents in flood plains in Meridian Kessler, Butler Tarkington, northern Washington Township, Broad Ripple and a few neighborhoods in the 46240 and 46260 zip codes. This will save residents of these neighborhoods about $140/month in flood insurance expense. It should also affect property values in these areas in a very positive way!
