Money in Your Wallet

In my last post, I promised to talk about exemptions for your property tax bill. The property tax bill is based on an assessed value which comes from the Marion County Assessor. The tax bill can be reduced significantly if you qualify for Exemptions. Exemptions for homestead and mortgages can reduce your assessed value by $45,000 and $3,000 respectively. To learn if you qualify for exemptions, call the Marion County Auditor’s office 317 327-3001 or you may go to their website

Look under the tab “Homeowner Services” for more specific information. The Auditors office can also tell you if exemptions have been applied to your home! Don’t forget that you must own the home to qualify.
